CELEBRITY AUCTION TO BENEFIT CHILDREN’S HOME
“AROUND TOWN CAROUSELS ABOUND” AUCTION GALA TO FEATURE ARTWORK BY NATIONAL CELEBRITIES IN MERIDIAN, MISSISSIPPI -
“Around Town Carousels Abound” is Meridian’s public art project similar to Chicago’s Cows, Los Angeles’ Angels, and New Orleans’ fish. The city has a display of 5 ft. carousel horses up around town. They have an auction planned of smaller versions of the horse for April 6, 2002.
With the help of Meridian native, Sela Ward of Once and Again and Sam Haskell of the William Morris Agency in Beverly Hills, CA, many celebrities have painted and signed the 24” and 9” carousel horses for the auction. The horses are available for viewing and bidding at the project website, www.carouselsabound.com or at www.publicartnetwork.com. The celebrities and dignitaries participating in the project include: Sela Ward, Billy Campbell, Shane West, and Steven Weber - all of Once and Again, Vanna White, Jennifer Lopez, Sean Penn, Lance Bass of ‘NSYNC, Jewel, Minnie Driver, Calista Flockhart, LeAnn Rimes, Christina Applegate, Kathy Ireland, Jessica Simpson, Dolly Parton, Tony Danza, Kirstie Ally, Delta Burke and Senator Trent Lott.
“These creative individuals have donated their time and talents to help raise awareness and funds for Hope Village for Children in Meridian, Mississippi,” said Jamie Cater, project co-founder. Hope Village, a home for abused and neglected children that is a result of the vision of actress Sela Ward, will be the recipient of all funds raised by the auction.
The online bidding of the horses will end on April 4, 2002 at 8:00 p.m. The highest bids on April 4th will serve as the starting bids at the Live auction on April 6, 2002 at The Meridian Little Theatre in Meridian, Mississippi. Online bidders may put in proxy bids if unable to attend the auction.
“This is an excellent way of bringing the world of art and creativity together with the spirit of giving and the glamour of celebrity,” said Debbie Martin, project co-founder.
The horses may be viewed at the public art network site or you may contact Wayne Rawson for photos at wrawson500@aol.com. For information about the project or reservations for the auction call Jamie Cater at (601)483-5027 or Debbie Martin at (601)485-1122.
